Water Tourism
Tripura’s
waterscape is as enchanting as the state’s lush green
landscape with sprawling lakes and rivers beckoning
bemused tourists .
The
sprawling 42 square km Dumbur lake of south Tripura ,
silhouetted by three hill-ranges
and virgin forest,
provide an ideal setting for eco-tourism . A surfeit
of small islands that dot the lake is sure to induce
tourists to spend a few days in the lap of nature ,
‘far from the madding crowd and ignoble strife’.
Tourists fond of proximity to water have another
attractive and must-reach destination which is Rudra Sagar lake and the historical monument ‘Neer Mahal’
standing in majestic beauty in its middle. Tripura’s
last princely ruler Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya
(1923-1947) had constructed ‘Neer Mahal’ in the heart
of Rudra Sagar lake as his summer resortApart from the
serene surroundings and the architecture of the
lake-palace, the government-run tourist resort ‘Sagar
Mahal’ provides comfortable lodging and food for the
tourists.
The large
‘Kamala Sagar’ lake dug by king Dhanya Manikya
(1490-1520) and the two wavy blue water lakes in front
of the ‘Ujjayanta palace’, abode of Tripura’s
erstwhile princely rulers in the heart of capital
Agartala will form inevitable itinerary of trourists
fond of waterscape. Princely Tripura’s erstwhile
capital and present headquarter of south Tripura
District, Udaipur is also known as a ‘lake-town’
because of the surfeit of large lakes , dug by
different princely rulers, that dot the town . These
lakes coupled with the river Gomati that flows by
Udaipur will enthuse tourists to have a pleasant
outing. |
